First Presbyterian Church — Brooklyn, N.Y.
At First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn we are dedicated to deepening our relationship with Jesus Christ and one another, supporting each other’s growth, and working towards a world on earth as it is in heaven. We celebrate the many ways our members express their Christian identities while also holding value for our century’s old traditions. We make space for members of all ages and backgrounds to participate in our life together, from leadership, to social action, to the arts, to ways we have yet to dream up. Together we creatively shape our community. We believe that to be a Christian is to do something different – to be a Christian is to love. We are an intentionally inclusive church that welcomes all people. That’s right – we welcome people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, races, ethnicities and classes – not in spite of the gospel but because of the gospel.
Our next pastor will bring a gracious warmth and an open heart to their ministry, leading as Head of Staff and Moderator of Session with a deeply collaborative spirit. We envision a shepherd who listens well, builds trust, and works alongside staff and lay leaders to nurture a shared sense of purpose, honoring the diverse gifts within our congregation. Through thoughtful leadership and ground in cooperation, they will help guide our worship, deepen our faith, and strengthen our life together and encouraging us to live more fully into our calling as a welcoming Matthew 25 congregation.
