CNP Positions on Gender and Sexuality Justice Overtures Before the 227th General Assembly
The 227th General Assembly (GA227) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) begins its in-person plenary business meetings on Sunday, June 28, 2026 in Milwaukee, Wis. CNP is sharing recommendations on key items of business coming before the 227th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) from the Gender and Sexuality Justice Committee (GEN).

The church confesses its complicity in the HIV/AIDS pandemic and in stigmatization of people living with HIV/AIDS. An amendment ensures practical action will be taken as a result.

The church declares its support all people to have access to medically necessary, evidence-based, gender-affirming healthcare.

Adds an item in the Ministry Discernment Profile letting congregations indicate openness to calling an LGBTQIA+ candidate and letting candidates view and filter by responses. CNP is committed to partnering in implementation of this voluntary, low-barrier transparency.

Directs a biennial National Queer Presbyterians Gathering, with mandatory funding, and additional regional gatherings. CNP co-sponsored the first gathering and affirms the need for intentional LGBTQIA+ community-building.

Directs the Unified Agency, in partnership with LGBTQIA+ Presbyterian organizations including CNP, to develop a voluntary self-audit guide helping congregations and other entities measure welcome against lived practice. It would amplify existing resources, prompt needed conversations and support more accurate MDPs, especially if GEN-06 is adopted.

The most significant theological initiative on sexuality and gender before this Assembly, building on the 223rd General Assembly’s action affirming the dignity of people of all gender identities, which originated with CNP advocacy. Offers guidance with depth, practical relevance and Reformed integrity.
